MANAGEMENT for MUMPS

A

o Care of contaminated articles boil 30 minutes
before washing
o Cleaning and airing of room for 5 to 7 hours (well
ventilated room)
o Bed rest (malaise)
o TSB or alcohol rub for fever (38C- 40C)
o Hot and cold application on swollen jaws
o Frequent antiseptic mouth washes and regular oral hygiene (to sooth throat)
o Diet: soft bland and semi-solid food (can’t
tolerate sweet, hot and cold, acidic
foods/beverages)
o Scrotum may be supported with a properly fitted suspensory pillow or a sling between thighs
o Adults: 300 to 400 mg CORTISONE then 100
mg every 6 hours
