what is multiple endocrine neoplasia
MEN is a rare genetic disorder
causes tumours or hyperplasia (overgrowth) in two or more endocrine glands, which can lead to excessive hormone production.
There are three types of MEN: MEN1, MEN2A, and MEN2B
MEN1 is characterised by tumours in the
PPP
pituitary tumours- prolactinoma
pancreatic and duodenal tumours
parathyroid hyperplasia
MEN2A is characterised by tumours in the
TAP
thyroid medullary carcinoma
adrenal- phaeochromocytoma
parathyroid hyperplasia
MEN2B is characterised by tumours in the
TAPM
thyroid medullary cancer
adrenal- phaeochromocytoma
parathyroid- hyperplasia or adenoma
mucosal neuromas
