Definition of an MCI
Any incident that exhausts the available resources within a 15 minute travel time

Duties of the Site Coordinator (8):
- ensure scene safety
- notify dispatch of the incident and that you are site coordinator
- ensure Triage Officer has been assigned
- utilize MCI bag any local protocols
- establish a command post
- liaise with allied agencies on scene and assess for need of others
- look for vehicle staging area, access/egress routes, assign Traffic Officer if necessary
- coordinate patient transportation with dispatch and other site officers
Triage Officers are usually:
site coordinators partner (1st responding unit)

Duties of the Triage Officer (6):
- identify yourself as Triage Officer
- ensure scene safety, coordinate entry with fire/police
- designate a triage area
- utilize triage tags and apply to each casualty
- assign personnel to deal with casualties, these may be paramedics, first aiders, bystanders
- inform Site Coordinator of status, number of patients and priorities
Ambulance traffic control is usually:
2nd or 3rd vehicle on scene; only needed if multiple units are responding for a prolonged incident
Duties of the Ambulance Traffic Control Officer :
- identify yourself
- assign a designated staging area for vehicles if not already done
- liaise with police for assistance with public vehicle control
- record crew arrival, remind them to shut off emergency lights, shut off engine, leave repeaters off, leave keys in ignition and vehicle unlocked
- brief incoming crews of incident, location of command and post and triage area
- maintain log of vehicle arrival, departure, destination and arrival, and number of patients
Safety Officer is assigned if:
sufficient personnel are available, if multiple personnel are expected to a prolonged response
