The term “multimedia” is used here to refer
to the extensive use of images, photographs,
sound and video files, as well as text. In other
words, we are concerned here with a variety
of formats in which we can access,
understand, process and express knowledge.

Podcast
A type of multimedia
that can be used even without the internet.
Offline Multimedia
It makes the content more visually
appealing.
Images
It presents
information requiring users’ interactivity to
control progress.
Linear Multimedia
It is a combination of
video, stereo, and computer graphics that
attempts to create an interactive 3-
dimensional environment.
Virtual Reality
lacking in movement, action or
change.
Static
characterized by constant
change, activity, or progress.
Dynamic
tag image file format; commonly
used for print, desktop publishing and
graphic design.
TIFF
moving picture expert group;
standards for multimedia compression and
delivery.
MPEG
audio video interleaved; a video and
audio file format used to store audio and/or
video information digitally for playback
purposes.
AVI
windows media video; compressed
video container format built for the windows media framework; suitable for selling video
contents online or through HD DVD and
Bluray Disc
WMV
windows media audio; native and
in-built to the popular windows media player.
WMA
musical instrument digital
interface; files in this format are basically
instructions that explain how notes are
played. Therefore, it is not in audio files and
it is smaller in size.
MIDI
small web format or shockwave
format; adobe flash file format which
contains videos and vector based animations.
