Multicellular Organisms - Organelles Flashcards
What is the function of the Cell Wall organelle?
The cell wall is most commonly found in plant and bacteria cells and supports and protects the cell.
What is the function of the Cell Membrane organelle?
The cell membrane is a outer double layer membrane that controls movement in and out of the cell.
What is the function of the Nucleus organelle?
The nucleus is separated from the cytoplasm by a nuclear membrane and controls all cell activities and DNA replication, transcription, and RNA processing are taken in place within the nucleus.
What is the function of the Nuclear Membrane organelle?
The nuclear membrane is made of 2 layers and surrounds the nucleus allowing material such as DNA and RNA to enter the nucleus.
What is the function of the Chromosomes organelle?
Chromosomes are situated in the nucleus, contain instructions for traits & characteristics, and are made of DNA.
What is the function of the Nucleolus organelle?
The Nucleolus is located inside the nucleus and contains RNA to build protiens.
What is the function of the Cytoplasm organelle?
Cytoplasm is a gel-like mixture that is surrounded by cell membrane and contains hereditary material.
What is the function of the Endoplasmic Reticulum organelle?
Endoplasmic Reticulum has a smooth type which does not contain ribosomes and a rough types that has ribosomes embedded in surface and moves various materials around inside the cell.
What is the function of the Ribosomes organelle?
Each cell contains thousands of Ribosomes that float throughout the cell and make proteins.
What is the function of the Mitochondria organelle?
Mitochondria are the powerhouse of a cell and produce energy through chemical reactions, breaking down fats and carbohydrates while also recycling and decomposing proteins, fats and carbohydrates and controlling the level of water and other material in the cell.
What is the function of the Golgi Bodies organelle?
The Golgi bodies package the protein made by the ribosomes and move material within and out of the cell.
What is the function of the Lysosome organelle?
The lysosome is an organelle that digests proteins, fats and carbohydrates while transporting undigested material to the cell membrane removal, and the cell breaks down if the lysosome explodes.
What is the function of the Vacuoles organelle?
The vacuole organelles are membrane-bound sacs for storage, digestion and waste removal and contain water solution while helping plants maintain shape.
What is the function of the Chloroplast organelle?
Chloroplasts are usually found in plant cells and contain green chlorophyll, and photosynthesis takes place in chlorophyll.
