Q

What is the connection between cells, tissues and organs?

A

Similar cells group together with a specific function to form tissues

Different tissues are organised into organs with a specific function

Different organs work together to form an organ system

Q

Mechanical and Chemical Digestion

A

Mechanical Digestion (Physical) is:
Chewing, tearing, grinding, mashing and mixing in the mouth. It is the physical breakdown of food. By breaking down the food by doing this the nutrients surface area is increased so chemicals can digest it quicker.

Carostotus pushes the food along through muscular contractions to the chemical digestive area.

Afterwards, Chemical Digestion takes place:
Is the chemical break down of ofod using enzymatic reactions to turn complex structures to simple, to improve the digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. i.e Saliva

For example, Carbs become Polysacc becoming monosacc (glucose), Or proteins become amino acids. Lipids become Fatty acids and lycerol. Therefore turning from complex to simple.

This is because the body cannot absorb complex molecules, so it gets broken down to simple molecules through this process.

Enzymes are organic catalyst which break food down.

Q

Gastrointestinal (GI) tract is?

A

It is a tube within a tube, and has a direct link/ path between organs. It has structures including the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and rectum

label these

17
Q

What is the liver?

A

Detoxifier organ. Blood goes in and out and gets cleansed

18
Q

Pancreas

A

Involved in chemical digestion, releasing enzymes into the beginning part of the small intestine.
