Q

What are the three ideas of Cell Theory?

A
  1. All living things consist of
    one or more cells.
  2. All cells arise from
    pre-existing cells through cell division.
  3. The cell is the
    fundamental unit of
structure and function of all living organisms.

Prokaryotic cell features

A
  1. Do not have
    structures surrounded by
    membranes
  2. Few internal structures
  3. One-celled organisms, Bacteria
  4. No membrane-bound organelles
  5. No nucleus
  6. Have less DNA than eukaryotes

Q

What are the difference between Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cells?

A

Prokaryotic cells have no nucleus, are around 1 um, have no membrane bound organelles and are simple organisms. On the other hand, Eukaryotic cells are complex organisms with membrane bound organelles, are larger ranging from 1 - 100um and have a nucleus.

16
Q

List the features, functions and location of “cell wall”

A

It is most commonly found
in plant cells &
bacteria and supports & protects cells. it surrounds the cell.

17
Q

List the features, functions and location of “Nucleus”

A

The Nucleus is inside the cell, directs cell activities,
contains genetic material - DNA and is Separated from cytoplasm by nuclear membrane

18
Q

List the features, functions and location of “Nuclear Membrane”

A

Nuclear Membrane surrounds nucleus, is made of two layers and has openings to allow
material to enter and
leave nucleus.

19
Q

List the features, functions and location of “Chromosomes”

A

In nucleus, Made of DNA, Contain instructions
for traits &
characteristics

20
Q

List the features, functions and location of “Nucleolus”

A

Inside nucleus, Contains RNA to build
proteins

21
Q

List the features, functions and location of “Cytoplasm”

A

is a Gel-like mixture in the cell membrane that Contains hereditary material

22
Q

List the features, functions and location of “Endoplasmic Reticulum”

A

Moves materials around
in the cell. There are two types, the smooth type: lacking ribosomes and the rough type:
ribosomes embedded in
surface

23
Q

List the features, functions and location of “Ribosomes”

A

Each cell contains thousands of ribosomes, it make proteins and is Found floating throughout the cell or on other ribosomes

24
Q

List the features, functions and location of “Mitochondria”

A

Mitochondria produces energy through
chemical reactions –
breaking down fats &
carbohydrates. It also Controls level of water and
other materials in cell, Recycles and decomposes
proteins, fats, and
carbohydrates. It is often called the powerhouse of the cell.

25
List the features, functions and location of "Golgi Bodies"
Is is a Protein 'packaging plant', responsible for Moving materials within the cell and Moving materials out of the cell.
26
List the features, functions and location of "Lysosome"
Digestive 'plant' for proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, Transports undigested material to cell membrane for removal. Interestingly, the Cell breaks down if lysosome explodes
27
List the features, functions and location of "Vacuoles"
Membrane-bound sacs for storage, digestion, and waste removal. It contains water solution and helps plants maintain shape
28
List the features, functions and location of "Chloroplast"
Usually found in plant cells, Contains green chlorophyll and is Where photosynthesis takes place
