Q

Results of Inadequate Tissue Perfusion

A
  1. Inadequate delivery of oxygen to tissues
  2. Inadequate nutrients to support vital organs
  3. Inadequate cellular functioning leading to cell death
  4. Energy deficit
  5. Lactic acid accumulation and decrease in pH
  6. Metabolic acidosis

Q

Physiologic Symptoms that are Common to all Types of Shock

A
  1. Hypoperfusion of tissues
  2. Hypermetabolism
    - Produce energy via anaerobic metabolism
  3. Activation of inflammatory response

Q

Vascular Response to Shock

A
  • Autoregulation stimulates vasodilation or vasoconstriction in response to biochemical mediators (cytokines) released by the oxygen deprived cells.
  • Biochemical mediator: substance released by cell that trigger an action at a cell site or travel in the bloodstream to another site, where it triggers a corrective action.

Q

MAP

A

Mean Arterial Pressure

- MAP must exceed 65 mm Hg for cells to receive the oxygen and nutrients needed to metabolize energy to sustain life
