Multi-Organ/DIC/Shock Flashcards
1
Q
Results of Inadequate Tissue Perfusion
A
- Inadequate delivery of oxygen to tissues
- Inadequate nutrients to support vital organs
- Inadequate cellular functioning leading to cell death
- Energy deficit
- Lactic acid accumulation and decrease in pH
- Metabolic acidosis
- Toxic substances enter blood stream
2
Q
Physiologic Symptoms that are Common to all Types of Shock
A
- Hypoperfusion of tissues
- Hypermetabolism
- Produce energy via anaerobic metabolism - Activation of inflammatory response
3
Q
Vascular Response to Shock
A
- Autoregulation stimulates vasodilation or vasoconstriction in response to biochemical mediators (cytokines) released by the oxygen deprived cells.
- Biochemical mediator: substance released by cell that trigger an action at a cell site or travel in the bloodstream to another site, where it triggers a corrective action.
4
Q
Three Major Components of BP Regulation
A
- Blood volume
- Cardiac pump
- Vasculature response
5
Q
MAP
A
Mean Arterial Pressure
- MAP must exceed 65 mm Hg for cells to receive the oxygen and nutrients needed to metabolize energy to sustain life
