What are the side effects of anti-psychotics?
Weight gain
EPSEs
Impaired glucose tolerance
Raised prolactin
What are the side effects of Clozapine?
Agranulocytosis
Myocarditis
Reduced seizure threshold
What monitoring is required for anti-pyschotics?
Prolactin and glucose: 6 months and yearly
FBC, U+Es, LFTs every 12 months
BMI weekly for the firtst 6 weeks, then at 3 months and then every 12 months
Lipids at 3 months then yearly
What are the extra-pyramidal side effects?
Acute dystonia: muscle spasms
Akathisia: restlessness
Parkinsonism
Tardive dyskinesia: involuntary movements of face
What are the features of neuroleptic malignant sydrome?
Temperature
Muscle rigidity
Tachycardia, hypertension
Confusion
How is Clozapine monitored for agranulocytosis?
FBC weekly for 18 weeks
Then fortnightly for up to one year
Then monthly
Oculogyric crisis is an example of which extra-pyramidal side effect?
Acute dystonia
Which medication is first line for rapid tranquilisation?
Lorazepam
