Q

Ventral Examples

A

A = V

*Anterior surface in anatomical position

  • Anterior trunk (face, stomach, ect)
  • Palms of hands
  • Ventral glide would be towards the palm
  • What trips me up:
  • Top of foot = dorsum
  • Bottom of foot = plantar surface

D = B

*Posterior surface in anatomical position

  • Posterior trunk (back of head, back, butt, ect)

Q

Mallet finger

A

-Damaged extensor tendon.
-Occurs when a force forces distal phalanx further into flexion than it should go.
-Splinting:
DIP splint
Keep in neutral, or slight hyperextension to allow healing for the damaged extensor tendon

“Injury to tendon that straightens the end joint of a finger or thumb (extensor tendons). AKA “baseball finger,” although, can happen to anyone when an object (like a ball) strikes the tip of a finger or thumb, and forces it to bend (flex) further than it is intended to go.”

Q

Gamekeeper’s Thumb

A

Injury/insufficiency of ulnar collateral ligament of MCP joint of thumb

UCL purpose: keep thumb stable, in order to pinch objects
MOI: When thumb is jerked away from the index finger - stretches or even tears UCL. It can also be result of gradual injury from repetitive trauma to the thumb

Splinting:
Thumb Spica Splint –
Wrist = 20deg extension; Thumb MCP = slight flexion

Q

De Quervians syndrome

A

Tenosynovitis (tendon sheaths inflamed) of: abductor pollicis longus (APL) and extensor pollicis brevis (EPB)

-Repeated motion can cause the sheath to become inflamed and thickened

Special Test: Finkelstein’s test

  • Grasp thumb in palm, ulnar deviate
    • is sharp pain along radial side of hand over tendons

Splinting:

  • Thumb Spica splint
  • Wrist =20deg extension; thumb MCP = slight flexion
