How long immobilized?
When are flexion/extension OK?

A

First 3-4 weeks distal extremity immobilized with protective splint, wrist and digits flexed — IP joints maintained at 30-50 flexion
- Resisted extension and passive flexion in splint, AROM to tolerance @4 weeks

  • Prox repairs immobilized with wrist/digital joints in extension 4 weeks
  • Distal IP joints in neutral 6-8 weeks

Non-cemented: more stressful on bones during surgical procedure

— Non-cemented used with younger more active individuals
— Cemented used with individuals with fragile bones or those who will benefit from immediate WB ability
