MSK Primary Survey
A
- GCS 15, alert
- Are they weight bearing?
- No obvious trauma
- Evidence of long bone fracture?
- need to be acuity aware of distracting nature of MSK pain
- think and look for MOI, thinking about age and size of pt

5Ps Questioning
A
- any pain? (I would use Socrates to fully assess)
- any paraylsis?
- look a normal pallor?
- feel for pulse
- any paraesethesia?

Numbness and Tingling
A
- any new numbness, pins and needles or tingling?
- if so, I would test for sensation later in my assessment

Recent Injury
A
- any recent blunt or penetrating trauma?
- broken hip in last year? (expectancy)

Drugs
A
- do you take diuretics, or steroids = linked to generalised muscle weakness , osteoporosis and pathological fractures

Mobility and Strength Questioning
A
- have you found it harder to move?
- have you felt weaker than normal?
- can you weight bear easily?
- have you had an increasing need for mobility aids?
- Do you have a hx of falls?

GSAL Test
A
gait =gait S = spine A = arms L = legs
1. Do you have an pain or stiffness in your muscles, joints or back?
2. Can you dress yourself without difficulties?
3. Can you walk up and down the stairs without difficulty?

A
- do you smoke? (Increase likelihood of cancers, bone density problems)
- do you do any risk taking sports?
- do you drink regularly? (Increased fall risk and can affect bone density)

A
- have you been diagnosed with any muscle or joint problems? (Arthritis, osteoarthitis, osteoporosis = in post meno due to decrease oestrogen lvls)
- any weakness, clicking or locking in your joints?
- any previously healed injuries?
- any FH of muscle, joint problems?
- any previous surgeries or metalwork put in?
