MSK - hand Flashcards
name the types of bones in the hand/bone divisions
carpals (8), metacarpals (5), prox phalanges (5), middle phalanges (4), distal phalanges (5)
name the joints of the hand + wrist (6)
1) radiocarpal joint (radius makes up majority of the wrist surface! - how to remember? look at your hand and notice that you can adduct your wrist much more than you can abduct… this is bc the radius’ fatness is in the way). 2) midcarpal joint, 3) carpometacarpal joint, 4) metacarpophalangeal oints, 5) proximal interphalangial joint, 6) distal interphalangeal joint
describe the radiocarpal joint (hint: made of 1 bone + TFD –> 3 bones)
TFC disc + distal radius –> scaphoid, triquetrum + lunate
mvts of the radiocarpal joint
flexion/extension, adduction/abduction, CIRCUMDUCTION
which muscles adduct the wrist?
flexor carpi ulnaris + extensor carpi ulnaris
which muscles abduct the wrist?
flexor carpi radialis, extensor carpi radlilis longus + extensor carpi radialis brevis
mvts of the carpometacarpal joints? (hint saddle joint!)
limited glidig mvts of fingers 2-5… MOST MOTION OF THE THUMB (at SADDLE JOINT of thumb) [trapezium –> metacarpal 1]
flexors and extensors of the interphalangeal joints 2-5
FLEXION: flexor digitorum profundus (DIP), flexor digitorum superficialis (PIP),
EXTENSION: extensor digitorum + lumbricals + interosseus (DIP)
mvts of the metacarpalphalangeal joints (knuckles)
flexion/extension.
flexion: lumbricals, interossei, flexor digitorum profundus + flexor dgitorum superficialis)
