What is the most common benign soft tissue tumour?
Lipoma (a neoplastic proliferation of fat)
How does a giant cell tumour typically present and where?
Small firm swelling on the flexor tendon sheath of a finger. (may be painful)
What do giant cell tumour of tendon sheaths histologically contain?
Multinucleated giant cells and haemosiderin
Malignant soft tissue tumours arising from the connective tissue are known as what?
Sarcomas
What is a ganglion?
A fluid filled lump associated with a join or tendon sheath
Which conditions may cause avascular necrosis (AVN)?
- Thrombophilia
- Sickle cell disease

What is Caisson’s disease and how can it cause AVN?
Decompression sickness (“the bends”) - causes AVN from nitrogen bubbles forming in the circulation after too rapid a depressurisation after deep sea diving
