MSK Flashcards
Femoral torsion
Twisting of femoral neck and shaft normal = 8-15 of anteversion (inward) anterior to medial-lateral femoral condyles
Below 8 degrees of femoral anteversion is called what?
Retro version, outward twisting, ER, limited IR
Walk with out toe posturing
Normal anteversion at birth?
30-40 reduced to 8-15 by maturity
Femoral Anteversion presentation
W sit, excess hip IR >70, restricted ER <20, genu valgum increased Q angle, relative external tibial rotation compensation, greater genu galgum = greater subtalar pronation
Femoral retroversion presentation
Out-toeing, excess ER >70, IR <20, genu varus with medial compartment pain, internal tibial rotation, greater genu varum subtalar supination
<8*
Resp response to aquatic therapy
Hydrostatic pressure increase when Xiphoid submerged, increase difficulty breathing, Increase RR (avoid with dyspnea)
Response of neuro system aquatic
Water temp leading factor, warm water relax hypotonia and spasticity, cold stimulate
MS avoid water >84*
MSK and aquatic therapy
Warm water vasodilator reduces fatiguability, strength with resistance underwater hydrostatic drag.
Cardio and aquatic therapy
Water temp >95.9 peripheral vasodilation 80.6 vasoconstrictor
Increase HR with increase temp, cold water = diving reflex, decrease hr, VC, decreased CO, decrease O2 demands to preserve vital organs
Cold water vasoconstriction increase BP, warm water vasodilator lower BP
