MSK Flashcards
How are most joints imaged?
AP and lateral, sometimes oblique as well
How is the shoulder imaged?
- AP
- lateral (Y-view of scapula)
- internal and external rotation
- axilalry lateral
- AP with craino-caudal downtilt
What does an IE AP film of the shoulder show?
posterolateral humeral head; can be fractured in dislocationss
What does an ER AP shoulder film show?
greater tubercle; can be fractured
What does the axillary film of the shoulder show?
- plate on top, beam inferior
- alignment of the glenoid-humeral head and AC joint
- coracoid fracture
Where are the secondary ossification centres in the shoulder?
- glenoid
- acromion (3)
- outer end of clavicle
- in addition to the greater and lesser tubercles and the humeral head
What views are taken of the elbow?
- AP
- lateral
- AP oblique
What ossification centre is visible in the elbow at 2 years?
capitulum
What ossification centres are visible in the elbow at 5 years?
- capitulum has fused to trochlea
- epiphyseal centre for the radial head
What ossification centres are visible in the elbow at 8 years?
- for the capitulum and lateral trochloea (large)
- small one for trochlea
- medial epicondyle
- radial head epiphysis has grown
What ossification centres are visible in the elbow at 10 years?
- capitulum and trochlea are fused to the humerus
- radial head is almost gused
- little one for medial epicondyle
What ossificiation centres are visible in the elbow at 13 years?
- medial epicondyle not quite fused
- radial head not quite fused
- olecranon not quite fused
When does the epiphyses for the capitulum and lateral trochlea appear?
1st year
When does the epiphysis for the medial epicondyle appear?
5th year
When does the epiphysis for the radial head appear?
5th year
