Alliteration
the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.: “the alliteration of “sweet birds sang”” “alliterations are clustered in the last few lines”.
Allusion
an expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly; an indirect or passing reference.
metaphor
a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.: “her poetry depends on suggestion and metaphor
Onomatopoeia
the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named (e.g. cuckoo, sizzle).
Personification
the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form.
Simile
a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid (e.g., as brave as a lion, crazy like a fox).
