Ms Lim's Cheat Sheet : Waves Flashcards
What is transverse wave?
Transverse waves are waves that travel perpendicularly to the vibration of particles.
What is longitudinal wave?
Longitudinal waves are waves that travel parallel to the vibration of particles.
Does the particles move in a wave?
No, the particles do not move from one end to the other. Instead, the particles only vibrate about their rest positions. Only energy will be transferred from one end to another.
Define Amplitude.
Amplitude is the maximum displacement of a point from its rest position.
Define Wavelength.
Wavelength is the shortest distance between any two points in phase.
Define a period.
A period is the time taken to produce one complete wave.
Define Frequency.
Frequency is the number of complete waves produced per seconds.
Define Wave speed.
Wave speed is the distance traveled by a wave per second.
What is the formula for Wave speed?
v=fλ or s=d/t
Define wavefront.
A wavefront is an imaginary line on a wave that joins all adjacent points that are in phase.
