what are the legal requirements of a nhs prescription?
patient name and address
age (if under 12)
prescribers address
prescribers signature (in indelible ink/ink, not pencil)
date of prescription (POM date needs to be within 6 months

is there a legal obligiation for layout of a private Rx?

explain nhs repeat dispensing service?
prescribers can set a batch i.e. 6 Rx for 6 months which means every month Rx will be sent to the pharmacy ready to be dispensed every month at set intervals
if a patient comes into the pharmacy with a repeat private rx which has a repeat x2 which was supplied yesterday to the gp, what do we do with the prescription?
dispense the medicine once, the pharmacy can hold onto the Rx so it could be stored in the pharmacy until the patient requests for a second or a third repeat,
RPh stamps the repeat onto the Rx and marks repeat on the Rx including the date and stamp to ensure that when the patient takes it to another pharmacy they are informed
what happens to a private Rx on the final dispensing?
pharmacy hold onto the Rx for two years on the final dispensing of a private rx
if an oral contraceptive does not have a repeat specified, how many times can you repeat it (max) and dispense it?
repeated 5 times

on a private rx, what does the prescriver need to include to ensure the same medicine can be prescribed again

health Rx (i.e. nhs Rx i.e. pom supplied on healthcare Rx oral contraceptives (even for private rx contraceptive) CDs wholesale supply (pom supplied to a wholesale does not need pom entry)
what should you include in the pom entry? legal
date of supply name and address of the patient name and address of the prescriber name of the medicine, the quantity, the formulation, strength, date of supply date on Rx
