What are the ADRs of Methotrexate
Can cause bone marrow suppression that leads to increase risk of infection
Liver damage
GI ulcers
Pulmonary fibrosis
What nursing interventions for patient taking Methotrexate
Assess for s/s of infection
Assess signs for abnormal bleed
Can give with folic acid to reduce risk of toxicity
Educate patient to report yellowing of eyes, infection, SOB and dyspnea and bleeding
Edu to drink plenty of fluids and not to drink alcohol
What is Alosetron
Used to treat IBS with diarrhea in women that has had it over 6 months
What are the ADRs of Alosetron (Hint: GI med)
Constipation that can lead to impaction, obstruction and perforation
Ischemic colitis
Nursing interventions for a patient taking Alosetron
Assess patient bowel pattern
Stop giving the drug to patient if constipation happens
Assess for ischemic colitis
Educate: report constipation and stop taking medication
Educate to report abd pain, bloody poop or rectal bleed and stop taking medication ASAP
What is omeprazole (Proton Pump Inhibitor) used for
Gastric and duodenal ulcers
Prolonged dyspepsia (indigestion)
GERD
Erosive esophagitis
What are the ADRs of omeprazole (Proton Pump Inhibitor)
Bone loss with long term use
Low magnesium
Headache, abd pain, N.V and diarrhea
Nursing interventions for patient taking omeprazole (Proton Pump Inhibitor)
Used the lowest dose and use it for short term
Assess for bone loss via bone density when patient takes it long term
Assess for low mag
Assess for severe vomiting and diarrhea
