Mrs Holmes (Reliability) Flashcards
What is reliability?
Extent to which findings of a study are consistent eg doing a similar study a bit later will get the smae results.
What are the teo types of reliability?
Internal and external.
Explain internal reliability?
refers to the consistency of meassures used in a study eg all tests must have a similar level of difficulty.
How to assess internal reliability?
Using the split half method, which involves comparing one half of the test to the other half to check if scores of one variable are consistent.
Explain how you would carry out a split half method?
Splitting the test in half and the same participant does both halves. If the two halves provide similar results then it suggests that the test has internal reliability.
Explain external reliability?
It is a consistency of meassures from one occasio n to another eg the same testy used on different occasions would get the same results.
How would u assess external reliability?
Using the test retest method, involving testing the asme participant twice overtime with the same test, similar scores suggest external reliability a correlation analysis of results of both tests will indicate levels of reliability.
What are three ways to improve reliability?
Pilot studies, More then one investigator, Observational studies.
Explain pilot studies?
Used to check method of meassurement works.
Explain how more than one investigator improves reliability?
This way they collect and record data should be standardised (may involve training)
Explain hoe observational studies
