What happens to the tissue of the penis during arousal?
A
Blood flows into the spongy tissues (corpus cavernosa and corpus spongiosum)

A
Flaccid –> erect

What mediates an erection?
A
The parasympathetic nerves which cause the arteries that lead to the penis to dilate. As the blood flows to the penis it swells, compressing the veins that would normally allow this blood to travel away from the penis.
