MRDFs Flashcards
Sustained release systems
achieve slow release of a drug over extended periods of time
Controlled Release Systems
a sustained release system which is successful at maintaining constant drug levels in the target organ
Prolonged Release Systems
sustained release system where constant levels are not achieved but therapeutic levels are prolonged
Extended Release Dosage Form
allows a reduction of dosing frequency
Delayed Release Systems
release of a drug at a time other than promptly after administration (may be time or environmentally influenced)
Repeat Action Systems
contain 2 single doses of medication - one of immediate release and a second for delayed release
Targeted Release
drug delivery to a specific body region, tissue or site to be released for absorption or drug action
Modified Release Dosage Forms
used to prolong or control drug availability or release with the intent of improving efficacy or efficiency of drug therapy
