Q
Mr Hyde is not directly speaking or present within this chapter yet more than half of the chapter contains him
A
This highlights the importance of the character, to be referred to and commonly quoted suggests they’ll play an important role in the story. The fact Mr Hyde isn’t present or speaking directly to the characters at that moment shows he’s an unreliable figure and promotes secrecy and mystery, the fact that the only information we’re given is he’s a despicable ‘creature’ by Mr Enfield automatically sets the reader up to dislike the character as we have no other impression of him.
