Mr Birling Flashcards
Mr Birling’s is a man of business
As a hard-headed business man, who has to take risks and know what he’s about – I say, you can ignore all this silly pessimistic talk
Mr Birlings view on war
you’ll hear some people say war is Inevitable … fiddlesticks!
Mr Burling’s view on the Titanic
The Titanic – she sails next week…and unsinkable, absolutely unsinkable.
Mr Burling thinks of his future
I’ve always been regarded as a sound useful party man. So – well – I gather there’s a very good chance of a knighthood – so long as we behave ourselves, don’t get into the police court or start a scandal – eh?
Mr Birling’s view on what a man needs to do
A man has to make his own way – has to look after himself – and his family too, of course
Mr Birling doen’t care that a girl has died
(rather impatiently) Horrid business. But I don’t understand why you should come here.
Mr Birling views on community
the way some of these cranks talk and write now, you’d think everybody has to look after everybody else, as if we were all mixed up like bees in a hive – community and all that nonsense.
Mr Birling trys to impress the Inspector
I was an alderman for years – and Lord Mayor two years ago – and I’m still on the Bench – so I know the Brumley police offers pretty well
Mr Birling hasn’t learnt his lesson
there’s every excuse for what your mother and I did
Mr Birling’s thoughts about the Inspector
That fellow obviously didn’t like us. He was prejudiced from the start. Probably a socialist or some sort of crank – he talked like one. And then, instead of standing up to him, you let him bluff you into talking about your private affairs.
Mr Burling is being mean to the younger generations
Now look at the pair of them- the famous younger generation who know it all. And they can’t even take a joke-
