Also people are able to skype or call family so wont get as home sick

Before the only way to travel was by horse and cart(10 mph), steam ships and locomotives(20-65 mph) and propeller aircraft(300-400 mph). Now we have passenger planes(500-600 mph)

An open door policy in the UK was introduced after ww2 which means people can freely migrate around the EU.
