Q

How is a wave cut platform formed?

A
  • Weathering weakens the top of the cliff
  • Hydraulic action causes causes a wave cut notch
  • The notch causes increases in size and causes the cliff to collapse
  • The sea carries the rubble away forming a wave cut platform
  • This process continues and the cliff continues to retreat

Q

How is a cave, arch, stack, stump formed?

A
  • Hydraulic action causes a crack in the cliff face to enlarge and create a cave
  • This cave is formed further by hydraulic action and abrasion
  • Over time a arch is formed
  • The arch starts to erode and collapse due to hydraulic action, abrasion and biological weathering and creates a stack
  • The stack gets attacked at the base by hydraulic action, abrasion, corrosion and biological weathering which breaks them down into stacks.
