Moving material Flashcards
Non-Vascular Plants
Plants that don’t have a vascular system which is made from xylem and phloem.
Vascular Plants
These plants have the vascular system which is made of xylem and phloem.
Non-Vascular plants move water and nutrients using
Diffusion and Osmosis
Example of Diffusion in real life
Food Colouring in water. It spreads in the water slowly from a drop.
Vascular Tissue
Is a specialised plant tissue composed of a tubelike cell that transports water, nutrients, and materials in some plant.
Xylem
A vascular tissue that carries water and dissolved nutrients from the roots to the stems and leaves.
Phloem
A vascular tissue that carries dissolved sugar throughout the plant.
Stomata
Pores(tiny holes) in leaves that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to go in and out of plant.
Oxygen can:
Help organisms grow, reproduce and turn food into energy.
Breathing is:
The movement of air into and out of lungs
What is the 2 respiratory gases?
O2 and CO2
What are the 2 respiratory movements?
Exhale and Inhale
Inhale breath
Oxygen goes in
Exhale :breath out
Carbon dioxide leaves the body
Pharynx
Is a tubelike passageway at the top of the throat that receives air, food, and Liquid from mouth or nose.
Trachea (Windpipe)
A tube that is held open by C-shaped rings of cartilage. Connects the pharynx to the bronchi.
Bronchi
Are two narrator tubes that lead to the lung
Bronchioles
Air passages inside the lung that branch off like tree limbs from the bronchi.
Lungs
Are the main organ of the respiratory system.
Diaphragm
Is a large muscle below the lung that contracts and relaxes as air moves into and out of your lungs.
Alveoli
Inside the lung, it is air sacs where gas exchange occur.
Why are alveoli so efficient?
1.Thin walls , 2. Large Surface Area, 3. High blood supply
