Lesson 1 Cells Flashcards
All Living things are made of ———
Cells
What is the 3 cell Theory?
- All living things are made up of one or more cells
- Cells is the basic unit of life
- All new cells come from pre-existing cells
Light Microscope
- Uses Light and lenses to enlarge an image of an object.
Uses a magnetic field to focus to focus on a beam of electrons through an object or onto an object’s surface.
Electron Microscopes
Unicellular organisms
Living things that are made up of only 1 cell
Multicellular
Living things that are made up of 2 or more cells.
Homeostatis
The organism ability to maintain steady internal conditions. (The ability stay healthy and alive )
Both Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cells have:
- They both contain genetic material (DNA 🧬)
Prokaryotic cell is:
- Smaller than Eukaryotic cells
- The genetic materials is not surrounded by lining.
- They have fewer parts in the cell.
- Most of them are unicellular organism.
Plants, animals, fungi, and organisms called protists are made up of ——-
Eukaryotic Cells
Eukaryotic cells:
- The genetic material is surrounded by lining.
- They have organelles inside of them
3.Eukaryotic are mostly larger than prokaryotic
How many times can the Light microscopes enlarge and image?
1,500 times
How many times can a Electron Microscope enlarge an image?
100,000 times
WHO discovered cells?
Robert Hooke
Stimuli
Is a factor that is changing in the environment or in the organism’s body.
Internal Stimuli
Comes from inside the organism.
Example: hunger-body temperature
External Stimuli
Comes from the Environment
Example: change in the weather
What are the 7 characteristics of living things?
- All living things are made of cells
- Living things grow
- Living things develop
- Living things reproduce sexually or asexually
- Living things respond to their surroundings.
- Living things maintain their internal condition at a steady level
- Living things need energy + oxygen to survive
Lives in a group called colonies and can live in extreme environments.
Prokaryotes
All living things are classified into — domains and — kingdom
3 domains and 6 kingdoms
The 3 domains of Organisms are:
-Bacteria
- Archaea
- Eukarya
