cyclic movement
shorter, regular period of time from regular activities (ex going to school, work, etc)

movements, longer periods of time (military duties, visiting relatives)
migration
the process of movement from one part to another
activity spaces
location where regular daily routines happen everyday (school, house)
nomadism
way of life for people who continuously move to different locations, never settles
migrant labor
periodic movementwhere workers move from one place to another to find jobs, usually leaving their home countries/regions to work in a different area (often agricultural/seasonal jobs)
transhumance
seasonal movement of people for their livestock (farming according to seasonal changes)

military families that are moved to different locations every few years to perform their duties

movement across borders to different countries (ex: us –> China)
forced migration
where individual is being forced to move out of their home (not understood reason)
voluntary migration
where individual chooses to move their home
the 5 laws of migration
- Every migration flow generates a return or counter migration
- The majority of migrants move a short distance
- Migrants who move longer distances tend to choose big-city destinations
- Urban residents are less migratory then inhabitants of rural areas
- Families are less likely to make international moves than young adults
gravity model
predicts the interaction between places based on their population sizes and distances
push factors
factors that encourages an individual want to leave their countries (for ex: war, poverty, gender inequality)
pull factors
factors that attract an individual to leave their country
distance decay
as distance between two place increases, the interaction chances decrease
step migration
where an individual moves to one place, to another, to another
intervening opportunity
opportunities from jobs to offers that individual receive during migrating process
deportation
getting sent back to your country (expired visa, illegal immigrant)
kinship links
relationships between family and friends
chain migration
when a migrant chooses a destination and informs family/friends to move there
