Movements Flashcards
Active physiological movement
Muscular contraction to produce voluntary, sweeping movement of one body segment in relation to another - often involving angular change between bones
Passive physiological movement
External force that creates sweeping movement of one body segment in relation to another - often involving angular change between bones
Accessory movement
Involuntary, small adjustments between joint surfaces to facilitate smooth and full movement
Active Insufficiency
Agonist muscle that passes over two joints can not shorten sufficiently to produce full range of movement at both joints
Passive Insufficiency
Antagonist muscle that passes over two joints can not lengthen sufficiently to allow full range of movement at both joints
Agonist/ Prime mover
Responsible for the movement
Antagonist
Responsible for the opposing movement of the agonist
Fixator
Steadies proximal attachment of agonist
Synergist
Improves quality and control of the movement - prevents unwanted movement at adjacent joints
