Terms learned from HUBS191 Lecture 2. Includes the Anatomical Position and Movements of the body.
Superior
Towards the top of the Anatomical Position. Higher on the body.
Inferior
Towards the bottom of the Anatomical Position. Lower on the body.
Medial
Middle of the Anatomical Position.
Lateral
The distance from the middle of the Anatomical Position.
Anterior
The front side of the Anatomical Position.
Posterior
The backside of the Anatomical Position.
Proximal
The superior term used for the upper limbs. e.g, the shoulder.
Distal
The inferior term used for the upper limbs. e.g, the hands.
Deep
Away from the surface.
Superficial
Closer towards the surface.
Saggital Plane
Cut down the middle creating a symmetrical left side and right side.
Coronal Plane
Cut down the middle creating an Anterior and Posterior side.
Transverse Plane
A horizontal cut.
Flexion
A decrease of the angle of limbs or the body. (Brought closer)
Extention
An increase in the angle of limbs or the body. (Moved away)
