Pace of movement
Does a character move quickly or slowly?
E.g. a queen might enter moving slowly, highlighting to the audience their status and power
Gait
A person’s manner of walking will form part of their characterisation
Quality of movement
E.g. a victim might move with very light movement to indicate they are trying to avoid attention, whereas a more aggressive character might move with very heavy, definite movement
Gestures
The way people communicate with their hands or other parts of their body
E.g. clenching fists to show tension/ anger
Facial expressions
How the face is used to convey an emotional state
Eye contact
The state in which 2 people look into each other’s eyes.
Could be used to establish status, control and passion.
Levels
Levels can make a scene look visually interesting, but the positioning if characters on different levels can also suggest social status and create atmosphere
