Flexion
Movement where the angle between bones decreases
Extension
Movement where the angle between bones increases
Plantar flexion
Movement at the ankle where the toes are pointed towards the ground
Dorsi flexion
Movement at the ankle where the toes are pulled up towards the shin
Abduction
Movement where limbs are moved away from the midline of the body
Adduction
Movement where limbs are moved back towards the midline of the body
Medial rotation
Rotation towards the midline of the body
Lateral rotation
Rotation away from the midline of the body
Horizontal flexion
Movement where the joint angle decreases parallel to the ground
Horizontal extension
Movement where the joint angle increases parallel to the ground
Circumduction
A combination of flexion, extension, abduction and adduction. Creates circular movements.
