What is a first class lever?
A lever with the fulcrum in the middle
What is a second class lever?
A lever with the resistance in the middle
What is a third class lever?
A lever with the effort in the middle
What is an example of a first class lever?
The elbow, throwing a javelin is an example of a first class lever in action
What is an example of a second class lever?
The ankle joint, a set shot in basketball would be an example of a second class lever in action
What is an example of a third class lever?
The elbow moving a resistance in the hand, a bicep curl is an example of a third class lever in action
What is a mechanical advantage?
When the effort arm is longer than the resistance arm
What is adduction?
Adding to your body (movement towards the body’s midline)
What is abduction?
Taking away from the body (movement away from the midline of the body)
What is plantar flexion?
Movement of the toes downwards towards the ground
What is dorsiflexion?
Movement of the toes upwards away from the ground
What is an example of adduction and abduction?
Star jumps
Which axis pairs with the sagittal plane?
The transverse axis (extension/flexion occurs here)
Which axis pairs with the transverse plane?
The longitudinal axis (rotation occurs here)
Which axis pairs with the frontal plane?
The sagittal axis (adduction/abduction occurs here)
