Where is the mouth located?
A
Between the cheeks, tongue, hard and soft plate.

What does the soft plate do?
A
Soft plate moves backwards and prevents food entering the nasal cavity.

What is the tongue?
A
Skeletal muscle covered with mucosa.
Used in speech, taste, movement, shaping and swallowing.

What do the salivary glands do?
A
They secrete slaiva.
Salivary amylase starts the digestion of carbohydrates.
Lysozymes destroy bacteria in food.
Mucis softens and lubricates food.

What are the 3 types of salivary glands?
A
Paratoid - under the ears
Submandibular - base of the tongue and under the jaw.
Sublingual - under the tongue in the floor of the mouth
