Mounting Stone on Articulator Flashcards
what is the Hanau Mark 10 articulator designed for?
efficiency and simplicity, the lightweight Hanau Mark 10 articulator combines high–end features in an economical, ergonomic unit and it offers the ability to lay the base at 45°, which
positions a mounted case to the technician at a “work friendly” angle for hands–free tabletop viewing
what is and what does the extension pin of the articulator allow?
simple, effective, push‐pull centric locking pin uses a detent system with a magnetized fossa, replacing fragile spring latches or screw adjustments to simplify activating the lateral and protrusive movements
allows the articulator to be opened without the top half swinging into the lower base
what does the magnetized fossa eliminate and what is it used for?
premature separation of upper and lower halves
a magnetic mounting system fits this instrument allowing the plates to snap into place for precise and repeatable alignment
what are the items needed for mounting stone on articulator?
- articulator
- mounting plates
- re-mounting jig
- plaster
what angles does the Mark 10 Articulator have?
fixed Bennett angle (15 degrees)
fixed horizontal condylar guidance (protrusive angle 25 degrees)
what can the centric lock lever do?
it can completely locked for hinge only movement
(locked in the down position while mounting the models)
when is the centric latch up?
when wanting to separate the upper member of articulator from lower member
what are the steps of mounting maxillary casts on the articulator?
-lubricate the articulator with vaseline (do not put Vaseline on mounting or magnetic plates)
- attach mounting plate to upper member of articulator
- attach remounting jib on lower member of articulator
- set incisal guidance pin to 0
- place maxillary cast on re-mount jig with anteriors near front edge
- align cast to midline grid (small amount of wax may be needed to stabilize cast)
- mix plaster and place on top of cast
- add portion of plaster to mounting plate on upper member
- close the articulator so that both portions of plaster meet and add plaster to fill gaps
- once hardened remove upper mounting plate
- “dress the cast”
what does dress the cast mean?
- Add plaster to border of casts
- Neatly smooth plaster as it sets
- Do not allow plaster to spill over onto mounting side of the plate
steps for mounting mandibular cast on articulator
- make sure models fit neatly into intercuspation
- use beading wax to hold casts together
- reattach maxillary model to the upper member
- invert the articulator
- hold casts in maximum intercuspation
- attach magnetic mounting plate to lower member
- mix plaster and place a mound of plaster on the mounting plate
- place mound of plaster on base of lower cast
- close articulator
- same steps for maxillary
