Q

What precautions should be taken for alginate and plaster bandage application and usage

A

Check allergies in latex
Can harden in 45 seconds
Stir fast to remove air, clumps before colour changes
Can harden on lip or in airways if ingested or breathed in

Q

Describe the method used to form thermoplastic mask

A
  • heated in 70 degrees
  • inform patient of procedure
  • Patient remove clothes, jewellery (discuss dentures), (discuss hair)
  • position patient (straighten)
  • shell is heated in warm bath
  • pat material dry
  • position it on patient. press into ear, nose bridge. flatten chin area, avoid overlap
  • keep it on patient and let it dry in room temp and until it retains shape
17
