Q

Taylor argued that

A

Workers do not naturally enjoy work and so need close supervision and control. Therefore managers should break down production into a series of small tasks.
Workers should then be given appropriate training and tools so they can work as efficiently as possible on one set task.
Workers are then paid according to the number of items they produce in a set period of time- piece-rate pay.
As a result workers are encouraged to work hard and maximise their productivity.

Q

Herzberg believed that

A

He believed that managers must firstly provide the type of workplace and conditions of work that prevented dissatisfaction (Hygiene factors)
Motivation could be obtained through careful job design that included effective communication and training (Motivator factors)
Managers should employ workers with the view that they will need to be trained to perform jobs they could not do when they joined the company.
Jobs should be enriched so that workers can experience motivator factors e.g. allow workers to make decisions about their job
Managers should recognise workers efforts and communicate with them e.g. giving praise for achieving targets
