What makes a job satisfying?
lots of things
What is flow?
Flow state:
-total immersion in a task
- “in the zone”
- lack of awareness of time, self, bodily states

What kinds of environments are most motivating?
1) Clear paths from inputs to outputs
2) Fair procedures and outcomes
3) meaningful work that affects others
What is expectancy theory?
maximum motivation when input-output relationships are highest
clear path from inputs to outputs: Employee expectancies
if i work hard, will i perform well
if i perform well, would i be rewarded
if i am rewarded, will the rewards help me fulfill my goals
What is equity theory
how does my ratio of inputs to outputs compare to that of relevant others?
Employees evaluate job search rewards based on their relative value, not their absolute value
What is distributive justice?
Did I get the rewards i expected and deserved?
What is procedural justice?
Are decisions made in a fair and transparent manner
did I have an opportunity to make my voice heard
am i treated with dignity and respect at this organization
am i treated differently because of my identity
Procedural justice is the strongest predictor of job performance
