What is motivation
Need or desire that energizes and directs behavior
Evolutionary (instinct) theory
Instincts results in fixed action patters ex. Instinct is to mate fixed action pattern I mating rituals
Drive-reduction theory
Needs results in drive ex. Need water drive is thirst
Drive reduction theory- what are push factors
Primary needs to enable survival
Drive reduction theory- what is pull factors
Secondary needs are learned ex. Money, grades push hunger pull smell food
Optimum arousal theory
Seek optimum level of psychological arousal
