Motivating Operations Flashcards
Motivating Operation
Alters the effectiveness of some stimulus as a reinforcer and alters the current frequency of all behavior that has been reinforced by that stimulus
Value - altering effect
An increase in the reinforcing effectiveness of some stimulus (EO) or a decrease in reinforcing effectiveness (AO)
Behavior - Altering Effect
An increase in the current frequency of behavior that has been reinforce by some stimulus (Evocative effect) or a decrease in the current frequency of behavior that has been reinforced by some stimulus (abative effect)
Unconditioned Motivating Operations (UMOS)
food, water, oxygen, activity, sleep and etc; all have an. AO and EO
Conditioned Motivating Operations (CMOs)
Motivating variables that alter the reinforcing effectiveness of other stimuli, objects or events but only as a result of the organisms learning history
Surrogate CMO (CMO - S)
A stimulus that has acquired its effectiveness by accompanying some other MO and has come to have the same value-altering and behavior-altering effects as the MO that it has accompanied.
Reflexive CMO(CMO - R)
A condition or object that acquires its effectiveness as an MO by preceding a situation that either is worsening or improving. This signals to us that an aversive event may be occurring soon.
Transitive CMO (CMO - T)
An environmental variable that establishes (or abolishes) the reinforcing effectiveness of another stimulus and thereby evokes (or abates) the behavior that has been reinforced by that other stimulus. You CANNOT have access to the stimulus you want until you solve the problem.
