Motions Flashcards
1
Q
What is motion (kinematics)?
A
the study of how objects move - not what causes motion
2
Q
Differentiate the two types of motion.
A
Scalar = described by a magnitude (or numeric value) Vector = direction AND magnitude
3
Q
What is uniform motion? Non-uniform?
A
Motion that has both constant speed & direct
Non-uniform motion changes in speed and/or direction
4
Q
Describe speed vs velocity vs acceleration.
A
Speed: how fast an object is moving
Velocity: speed with direction
Acceleration: rate at which an object changes velocity
5
Q
Describe position vs. displacement
A
Position = where an object is Displacement = change in position // straight-line distance and direction from start to finish points (may use pythagorean theorem)
