Motion & Pressure Flashcards
What is Speed?
How far something travels in a particular time.
If you are working out the distance of something, what will be the formula?
Speed x Time

What Is Instantaneous Speed?
The Speed at a moment.
What is Average Speed?
The total distance travelled in the total time taken for a complete journey.
What is Relative Motion?
How fast something Is travelling compared to another.
What is a Distance-Time Graph?
A graph that shows the distance travelled in a certain time.
What 2 factors effect pressure?
Volume and Temperature.
Describe how atmospheric pressure changes with height.
Less pressure will be affected by less gravity pulling you to the Earth.
What is Atmospheric Pressure?
Pressure in the air.
What is Gas Pressure?
Force exerted by air particles.
What does Compressed mean?
Squashed into a space.
Why do you feel more pressure the lower you are underwater?
It is because there will be more particles on top of you, creating more pressure.
What is Pressure?
Force exerted on a certain area.
If you are working out the area of something, what will be the formula?
Force Divided by Pressure.
Why would you wear snow shoes on powder snow?
Snow shoes spread the force out because the area is larger.
What is a Pivot?
Point where a lever balances.
What is a Moment?
Turning effect of a force.
What does a turning force depend on?
- .+ How strong the force is
* .+ Distance away from the pivot
When you push a door open closest to the pivot, it makes it difficult to open it. Why?
The closer you are to the pivot, the more force you need to use.
What are the Laws Of Moments?
Both clockwise and anticlockwise are balanced/equal.
If you are working out the force of something, what will be the formula?
Moment Divided by Distance.
