NEM: When pt raises ipsilateral leg, PSIS will rotate posterior/inferior without P/I rotation of sacrum.
When pt raises contralateral leg, scarum will rotate P/I without P/I rotation of the ilium.
Iliolumbar Ligament
SCP: L5 SP and across on the iliac crest (1/2” above PSIS)
CP: drs thumbs
NEM: for ilium to move P/I without rotation of L5 spinous to opposite side
Sacrotuberous Ligament
SCP: non-specific contact, holding pt pelvis
CP: drs hands
NEM: ilium flexion to occur without supporting leg buckling
Sacrospinous Ligament
SCP: ischial tuberosity
CP: fingers
NEM: for ischial tuberosity to deviate laterally.
Sitting Axial Rotation of SI joint
PSIS w/middle finger, S2 w/index finger
Rotate pt towards you
NEM: ilium and sacrum to separate
Sitting Lateral Flexion of SI joint
“I’m going to contact your pelvis and you will bend either to the right or the left depending what I tell you, without lifting your buttocks off the chair”
Contact both PSIS w thumbs
NEM: PSIS’s to remain level
Sitting Forward Flexion of SI joint
“I’m going to contact your pelvis and have you crunch forward, without lifting your buttocks off the chair”
Thumbs on each PSIS
NEM: PSIS’s to remain level
Standing Forward Flexion of SI joint
“I’m going to contact below your waistband, is that okay? When I say so, please bend forward and touch your toes”
Contact S4 and PSIS on one side
NEM: for PSIS and S4 to separate
*S4 touch the floor

Lumbar Hyperextension

CP: pincher hold using thumb and index
SH: still holding on the pts elbows as in extension

Lumbar Facetal Extension
SCP: mamillary process of facet, superior and lateral to SP
CP: dr’s thumb
SH: pts elbows
NEM: P-A jt play of capsular ligament
Lumbar Axial Rotation, using MP of facet
SCP: mamillary process of facet
CP: drs thumb and dr sits on side they will be rotating towards
SH: the doctor contacts pt elbow
NEM: P-A rotation of facet past inferior vertebra
Lumbar Lateral Flexion
SCP: 2-3 SP
CP: drs fingertips of hand opposite side of LF
SH: across back of pts neck along shoulders
NEM: spinous should deviate (rotate) to the opposite side (convexity)
Cervical Flexion
SCP: 2 SP
CP: index/chiro index
SH: knife edge contact on forehead
NEM: flaring/opening of SP
