Motion P9 Flashcards
What is the equation for speed?
Speed=distance
time
What is the equation for the speed of an object?
Velocity=speed
time
Distance time graphs.
What sort of line is it when an object is stationary?
This is a horizontal line.
What sort of line is it when the object is moving at a constant speed?
The line is a straight line that slopes upwards.
What gradient of the line is it to see what the object speed represents on the distance-time graph?
The steeper (diagonal) the line (gradient) the faster the speed the object is moving at.
Scalars and vectors
What is a scalar?
Some example of scalars.
A scalar is a quantity that has a size only.
Some example of scalars are time (seconds), distance (metres) and
mass (kilograms).
What is a vector?
Some examples of a vector.
A vector is a quantity that has a both a size and a direction.
Some example of a vector are force (newtons), displacement (metres) and weight (newtons).
What is deceleration?
Deceleration is the change in speed (velocity) per second when an object slows down.
What is velocity?
Velocity is the speed given in the certain direction.
What is a control vriable?
A Controlled variable is a a variable that is kept the same during a scientific experiment.
What is a dependent variable?
A dependent variable is a variable being tested or measured during a scientific experiment.
