Energy P1 Flashcards
Useful energy
The light transferred by a torch
Input energy
The chemical store of a battery.
Waste energy
The heat transferred by a torch.
Efficiency
The measure of how much energy was usefully transferred.
Chemical energy store
Name an example of it.
Energy transferred by a chemical reaction.
An example of this is a battery.
Kinetic energy store
Name an example of this.
Stored by any moving object.
An example of this is a jogger.
Thermal energy store
Name an example of this.
Energy related to the temperature.
An example of this is a cup of tea.
Elastic energy store
Name an example of this.
Stored by a springy object when it is squashed or stretched.
An example of this is a bow and arrow before it is fired.
Gravitational potential energy store
Name an example of this.
Energy due to an object’s height above the ground.
An example of this is a book on a shelf.
Renweable energy
A renewable resource is one that can be used repeatedly and does not run out because it is naturally replaced. A renewable resource, essentially, has an endless supply such as solar energy and wind energy.
Non-renewable
A non-renewable resource is a natural resource that cannot be replaced by natural means at a quick enough pace. Some example of non-renewable resources are crude oil and natural gas.
Is hydroelectric power a renewable resource?
Yes
Is coal a non-renewable resource?
Yes
Is biofuel a non-renewable energy source
No biofules is a renewable energy store.
Is geothermal a reneable source?
Yes
Is oil a reneable energy resource?
No oil is a non-renewable energy source.
When you drop a bouncy ball, how is the energy stored before the ball is dropped?
Gravitational potential energy.
What useful energy store is energy transferred to as the ball falls?
Kinetic energy
Some of the ballsenergy is transferred as wasted energy during the fall. What type of energy is wasted during the fall?
Heated energy is wasted during the fall.
