Motion in a Plane 2 Flashcards
what is a projectile
any object that is thrown into space such that it moves under effect of gravity alone is called projectile.
a bullet fired from a gun
types of projectile
oblique and horizontal
oblique: angle theta is non zero
horizontal: angle theta is 0
how is motion along x and y axis for projectiles
The motion of a
projectile may be thought of as the result of two
separate, simultaneously occurring components
of motions. One component is along a horizontal
direction without any acceleration and the other
along the vertical direction with constant
acceleration due to the force of gravity. It was
Galileo who first stated this independency of the
horizontal and the vertical components of
projectile motion
what is uniform circular motion
when an object follows a circular path with a constant speed, the motion is called uniform circular motion.
Such a motion is possible only if the velocity is tangential to the circular path without a change in its velcotiy.
what is angular displacement
the angle swept by the radius vector in a given time interval
what is angular velocity
ii)time period
iii) freqeucny
(i)angular displacement per unit time
(ii) it is the time taken to complete one revolution
(iii) it is the no.of revolutions completed in one second
what is centripetal force
Since the direction of motion is always changing, according to newton’s first law of motion, a force must be acting on the body.
The external force which deflects the particle from moving in a linear path to make it move in along a circular path is called CENTRIPETAL FORCE.
The force is always directed along the radius towards the centre.
what is centripetal acceleration
the acceleration of a body in uniform circular motion is called centripetal acceleration and is acting towards the cnetre of the circle along the radius
what is angular acceleration
the change in angular velocity in unit time.
