Q

what is terminal velocity?

A

when the resultant force is 0 / a consistent force balanced

so when the air resistance is equal to the weight of a falling object, the resulting force is 0 therefore it is falling at a consistent speed.

this is terminal velocity

Q

explain parachutes

A

using parachute = weight is less than drag + air resistance (parachute gives larger surface area) which slows fall - decreasing velocity

freefalling = weight is bigger than air resistance because people don’t have large surface area
which results in acceleration downwards that increases velocity
