Motion and Pressure Flashcards
1
Q
Why does pressure increase with depth?
A
As you get deeper there are more particles above you. Each particle has a weight that pushes down on you. More particle means a bigger force. Bigger force more pressure.
2
Q
What are the units of pressure?
A
Pascals, Pa
2
Q
What is the equation for moments?
A
Moment (Nm) = Force (N) x perpendicular distance to the pivot (m)
3
Q
State the law of moments.
A
If an object is balanced: The sum of the anti-clockwise moments = the sum of the clockwise moments.
5
Q
What is the equation for pressure?
A
Pressure (Pa) = Force (N)/Area(m2)
6
Q
How does the pressure in a fluid vary with depth?
A
As you get deeper the pressure increases.
